Plenty of shopping options near the 5 Star Mystery Hotel in Perth CBD

Perth Entertainment & Dining

The City of Perth has an abundance of restaurants and cafes serving the freshest produce at reasonable prices, with dining experiences throughout the city to suit your palate and wallet.

For those on a budget, a restaurant dim sum lunch or a visit to one of Perth's many food halls is a great choice. Food halls offer a variety of cuisines including Chinese, Japanese, health food and English roasts, making them a good choice for families.

World-class restaurants are also available, many located within Perth's five-star hotels, in stunning locations overlooking the city and the river. East and West Perth also offer elegant restaurants to suit all tastes. Al fresco dining is available almost everywhere and is a popular choice in the long summer months.

The Central Business District and Northbridge

In the CBD and Northbridge you will find many cafes serving excellent coffee, as well as gourmet grocers where you can pick up ingredients to "make your own". The abundant al fresco cafés of Northbridge provide the perfect vantage point for people-watching while you enjoy beautifully crafted coffees, cakes or gelato.

When the long sunny days give way to the night, there are still hours of entertainment to be had around the city. Night time venues ranging from combined art gallery/bars through to underground dance clubs and themed pubs offer a range of choices for every night owl.

Northbridge has by far the greatest concentration of clubs and pubs, drawing crowds particularly on Friday and Saturday nights. Music styles including house, funk, jazz, hip-hop and the blues draw a mix of patrons to the precinct, creating an energetic night-time atmosphere.

For those seeking a different scene, there are plenty of friendly pubs in which to play a game of pool and listen to live music. Chilled out lounge bars are great places to start or end the evening, or you could seek out a club where you can dazzle your partner with your Latin dancing prowess.

The City's West End

The "West End" area of the city has grown rapidly in popularity in recent years to become the fashionable choice for post-work socializing that extends late into the night. Boutique breweries and glistening, contemporary bars lure thirsty city workers and shoppers. The compact area makes the West End ideal for bar-hopping. Further towards West Perth, you'll find even more stylish venues, including the lush Onyx, and Black Tom's, where you can enjoy fresh oysters with your champagne.

The CBD is not traditionally known as an after-hours destination, but those who seek shall find! A host of tucked-away bars, some underground, some in arcades and malls, and others located within the many hotels along St Georges Terrace, provide even more social options. Down at Barrack Square, the Lucky Shag is in a sublime riverside location for a balmy summer's evening.

East Perth

If the river is a major draw card, don't forget about East Perth, where the Royal Bar and Café is perfectly positioned, with plenty of other excellent restaurants nearby. Hay Street East has among its venues the Grosvenor Hotel, known for spawning many of WA's leading contemporary bands.

Attractions in Perth

The City of Perth and surrounds is host to a wide range of exciting attractions to suit all ages.

Whether you're here on a holiday, finished work for the day or simply planning to take in some city scenery, the following provides something for everyone.

Barrack Square and The Swan Bells

The jetties at Barrack Square are the departure point for river, winery and Rottnest Island cruises, as well as ferries to South Perth and Perth Zoo. The vibrant riverside location features public art, cafes, restaurants and a lively bar.

Barrack Square is the home to Perth's Swan Bells Belltower, one of the world's largest musical instruments. The Belltower houses the twelve bells of Saint Martin in the Fields church, the parish church of Buckingham Palace, and also features a viewing platform and exhibitions. It is open daily from 10am.

Perth Town Hall A historic icon that has seen the city develop around it.

Built in 1868, the Perth Town Hall is a prime example of heritage buildings erected during a period that saw the city flourish and develop.

Perth Mint

Since the gold rush of the late 1880's, Australia's gold has been refined by The Perth Mint and made into legal tender coins, tradeable bars and exquisite jewellery. Housed in one of the country's most elegant 19th Century buildings,

The Perth Mint is the nation's oldest operating mint. See a live gold pouring performance in the original Melting House and marvel at the world's largest gold coin, valued at over $50million.

The Perth Mint is located at 310 Hay Street, East Perth. Open 7 days, 9am – 5pm. Phone 1300 366 520 or visit www.perthmint.com.au/visit for more information.

Swan River

On the city's doorstep lies this natural beauty – creating a stunning contrast against the skyline of city high rises. Dual-use paths make it possible to walk, ride or skate a circuit around the Swan River. For water sports enthusiasts sailing, windsurfing and canoeing are popular choices, with hire facilities located along the foreshore.

The 'bridges' walk around the river (crossing at Narrows Bridge and the Causeway) will take you approximately 2.5 hours.

Kangaroos on Heirisson Island

On the fringes of the City of Perth you can visit Heirisson Island, the home of a colony of Western Grey Kangaroos. The island is in the city's East and can be accessed via the Causeway. Dawn and dusk are the best times to catch a glimpse of the islands' inhabitants.

Kings Park

A short stroll from the City centre, you'll find 400 hectares of towering trees, stunning bush land, mirror-like lakes, grand lookouts, sculpted gardens and picnic areas.

Kings Park is a natural wonderland where you can enjoy pleasant walks while taking in the native plants, seasonal wildflowers and rich Aboriginal heritage. Magnificent views of the Swan River and Cityscape make the parklands a popular place for taking photos.

Parks and Gardens A City decorated with historic parks and gardens

With an array of open green spaces to botanic gardens dating back to the founding of Perth, the City's parks and gardens are free to be enjoyed by the public.

Perth Cultural Centre

On a walk through Perth's Cultural Centre in Northbridge, you will find the Art Gallery of WA, the WA Museum and the State Library.

The Cultural Centre is also home to innovative arts venues Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts and the Blue Room Theatre, while the nearby Rechabites' Hall is the stage for many alternative performances.
